Summary:
This position will be responsible for overseeing all real estate legal matters for Avis Budget Group in the United States, including larger and often complex airport concession agreements and leases as well as local market leases. As a member of the Legal Department, this individual will serve as an important advisor, providing legal counsel and support for a variety of real estate matters for the Company. Responsibilities will extend beyond completion of business deals, and will include handling and effective resolution of any developments and/or disputes, from start to finish, during and throughout the term of such agreements and leases.
What you’ll do:
Reporting to the General Counsel, provide strong legal oversight with respect to the negotiation of, and in some cases negotiate, airport concession agreements and leases, and leases and/or acquisitions or dispositions of non-airport real estate used for airport support, urban/suburban or resort operations or locations and other support functions (i.e., area headquarters, sales offices, over-flow land).
Serve as a primary contact for US-related real estate legal matters.
Oversee, direct and supervise outside counsel, including coordinating/managing outside counsel to ensure timeliness, efficiency and excellence of service.
Coordinate real estate abstracts on all properties and advise on issues of interpretation and administration of leases and concession agreements.
Assist in acquisition or disposition of franchise operations with regard to real estate issues.
Serve as legal adviser to the VP of Real Estate and his staff on legal considerations relating to all real estate matters.
You should apply if you bring:
Juris Doctorate from accredited law school
3-5 years major law firm or in-house experience, with the majority of the time spent practicing real estate law at a major law firm
Extensive understanding of real estate law, with experience handling complex lease agreements
Experience with airport concessions and/or retail locations strongly preferred
Highly effective negotiating skills, with solid business instincts and judgment
Experience with maintaining, monitoring and managing the budget for all aspects of real estate legal work
Strong project management experience
Government Affairs/Regulatory experience strongly preferred
Skills and abilities, you should have:
Understanding of airport procurement procedures
General knowledge of local government operations
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Familiarity with Visual Lease or similar lease administration software
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Strong business and financial acumen
Leadership skills, with a high degree of integrity and forethought in approach to making decisions
